Flick2 Movie Review: Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole was a brilliant movie. I went into the theatre with the mindset, "Okay, I'm gonna watch this owl movie, looks pretty cool by the trailer. I just hope this isn't Happy Feet. I hated Happy Feet." I stepped into the IMAX theatre and I was blown away. This was no ordinary owl movie. Instead, I got an epic action/adventure story that felt like 300 and Lord of the Rings combined, but with owls. And much to my surprise, when the credits came along, I noticed that it was directed by Zack Snyder, the famed director of 300.

This movie, on top of being visually stunning to watch with its amazingly lifelike movement, great rendered 3D, and slow motion action scenes, had a great story. The epic follows the young owl Soren, voiced by Jim Sturgess, as he searches for the Guardians of Ga'Hoole and makes some interesting friends along the way. I just reread that line and it sounds like a Disney channel made for TV movie but believe me, its far from that. I don't want to give away anything about this movie except that its worth it to watch, especially in the IMAX. You will be amazed and truly enjoy the experience.

Also, as an added bonus, much like the Disney movies have been doing, there is a cartoon before the movie. You get this nicely CG rendered cartoon of Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner. This was also in 3D and was very entertaining. I wouldn't be surprised to see more of these making their way to the beginnings of more Warner Brothers movies.

Flick2 Movie Review:
5 out of 5 Stars
